Things to do in Jerusalem: Ongoing Activities, Sightseeing and Free Tours

Dear vacation renters in Jerusalem:

This post is meant not only for those of you who are new to Jerusalem and looking for a fun way to get to know this fascinating city,  but for those of you who are already familiar with the city, and are looking for interesting outdoor activities & the best sightseeing to fully enrich their Jerusalem experience!

Free Guided Tours

The Jerusalem municipality has been putting in much effort in making the city tourist-friendly.

One of their latest and most advanced projects is the “JerusaleMP3” project, in which you can take a guided tour of different sites of the city with your MP3.  All you have to do is download the tour info (maps, audio and written guide) to your computer and then to your MP3 player- and you can start walking!   Among the tours offered:  Ein Karem, around the Old City walls, Nachlaot, different themes within the Old City and the Jewish quarter, and much, much more…

For more information and for  free registration, visit the project web site: http://www.jerusalem-insiders-guide.com/jerusalem-mp3.html

Events & Attractions

Another valuable service provided on the  Jerusalem municipality website is a list of kid-friendly activities and attractions: museums, sites, parks, gardens and forests.

We bring you the highlights:

Night Spectacular: a night show in the Tower of David Museum. The walls of the Old City and  the citadel act as the stage for this unique, breathtaking, one-of-a-kind show!!  The show involves 20 projectors, 10 video players, 14 computers and 14 loudspeakers, all being controlled by creatively engineered technology created specifically for this very purpose.

For more information and tickets, visit the Tower of David museum website: https://www.tod.org.il/

The Archeological Experience:  The history of Jerusalem (and of the Land of Israel)  pretty much goes back as far as the history of mankind itself.  What is a better way to learn about this extraordinary history than discovering it on your very own? The archeological site located outside of the Temple Mount invites you to sift through ancient rubble and dirt, where numerous priceless artifacts have already been found, and experience history unfolding in front of your very own eyes!

Activities for visitors  include a guided tour, sifting, and a Certificate, and take place

 Sun-Thur: 8:00AM-4:00PM

 Fri: 8:00AM-1:00PM

Be sure to call in advance: 02-6268700, and to come with comfortable work clothes & shoes, snacks & drinks!

The Kifzuba Amusement park:  If you’re looking for some activities right outside of the city, this is a great place!  A mere 2o minutes from Jerusalem is where you will find one of the best children’s amusement parks in the country: Kifzuba.

The park has large play facilities, a kiddie train ride, bumper cars, a petting zoo,  arcade and more. The different facilities are geared for children ages 1-14 years old.

Here is a video from the Kifzube web site (Hebrew only, unfortunately) featuring the Kifzube song (in Hebrew as well…), that  shows the different attractions Kifzuba Park has to offer:
