Additional Things That Need To Be Done Once You Have Moved Into Your Apartment

Last month we wrote a Guide To Transfer Bills To Tenant’s Name, this week, we are writing a continuation to that blog post. The below will apply only to residents (however, they do not apply to everyone):

  1. Change of mailing address  – When moving into an apartment in Israel (whether one you have bought or if you are renting) you will need to change your mailing address, so all of your mail is forwarded to your new address. In order to do this, you need to us a service called “Follow me” It is a service through the post office which will forward mail to your new address at no fee for the first 4 months. How to set this up? This can either be done at the post office, but it can also be done online. To read more about this service and/or to change your address online, click on the following link, and you will be redirected to the change process. Just follow the instructions:

           https://www.israelpost.co.il/content.nsf/pages/262

           https://www.israelpost.co.il/redirectmail.nsf/RedirectOne?openform

***This only applies when changing your address from one Israeli address to another and will not work when changing an address to our from overseas.

  1. Changing the sefach in your Teudat Zehut – This can be done at the Misrad Hapnim, or online.

If you would like to have this done online, please click on the following link and you will be redirected to the online form. Follow the instructions listed:

           https://www.gov.il/he/service/changing_address

***This only applies to Israeli citizens.

  1. Parking stickers – If your new apartment does not have a designated parking space or private parking, you will need to obtain a parking sticker as some or even most residential neighborhoods these days are metered parking. In order to do this you need to have a lease of at least 12 months, the arnona bill needs to be in your name, and the new address must be on the sefach of your Teaudat Zehut. If you do not have these things, you will need to have a lawyer sign an affidavit you are living in the apartment.

Once you have all the required documentation, click on the following link to begin the process of obtaining a parking sticker:

  1. Additional things that are best to be done upon moving into your new apartment are putting your name somewhere near or on the door and the mailbox. This way guests, messengers, and the mailman will know where to go.

We hope this guide was helpful in assisting you on how to go about setting up certain things in your long-term rental apartment in Israel.
