JERUSALEM NEIGHBORHOODS AND REAL ESTATE PART III
As you may recall, some several months back we wrote about different Jerusalem neighborhoods we work in, and what makes them special. To add to the already mentioned neighborhoods, here are some more, although not quite central neighborhoods we specialize in:
Baka – Baka is primarily a mix of Daati Leumi (religious) and Chiloni (non-religious) families. The main rod of Derech Beit Lechem runs through it, which provides a variety of shops and cafes, as well as a pharmacy and laundromat. Baka is adjacent to Emek Refaim (the German Colony area) and the First Station. The old train tracks act as a border between the neighborhoods. Like the other Jerusalem historic neighborhoods, previously mentioned, There are several old Arab houses throughout the neighborhood. There are also apartment blocks, many of which are in different stages of Tama (click here to read our blog post about Tama 38)as well as city plans for the renewal of older buildings. Side note: Baka is an Arabic name for this neighborhood. The Hebrew name for it is “Komemmiyut”.

Abu Tor – The Abu Tor neighborhood is bordering the Baka and Arnona neighborhoods. It borders the west side of Baka and the East side of Arnona, closer to the eastern side of the city. Though there are some religious people who live in this neighborhood, and even a synagogue, its resident are primarily non-religious Jews and Arabs. The residents are scattered within, so even as close as door-to-door. Similar to other neighborhoods there are older Arab houses together with newer construction from around the 70’s, as well as even more recent construction from the early 2000’s. the YES Planet movie theatre is in Abu Tur and begins the Tayelet (promenade), which extends all the way to the Armon Hanatziv neighborhood. Along this path are beautiful views of the Old City of Jerusalem and the Temple Mount. Don’t forget the Abu Tur is just a skip, hop, and a jump to the First Station Center where there are plenty of restaurants and other attractions.
Arnona – Arnona is a typical residential neighborhood. It was built in the 1930’s and is compiled of old Arab houses, apartment blocks, and newer or renewed (Jerusalem stone) apartment buildings. Within the past 15/20 years, there have been new developments and higher apartment building which stretch almost as far as the Ramat Rachel Kibbutz. Arnona is primarily a secular neighborhood, but also has a sizable religious community. East Talpiot is close by as well as the Ramat Rachel Country Club and Event Hall.
